Five days to go

Five days to go and oh yuck!  The weather isn’t getting any better!

Yuck

Inspiring isn’t it?  Even the rain pants didn’t keep me dry today.  There seemed to be quite a lot of Eagles out along the edges but really didn’t stand around too long to count.

Still Salmon

Still Salmon spawning in the log bay…I think there are a few more in this area than we’ve seen the last few years….but still nothing like the numbers we had ten or twelve years ago.

Eagle on a post

One wet Eagle on a post….the most interesting thing today was a group of Steller’s Jay ‘mobbing’ ~ they do that when a predator is in the area…

Sharp Shin

The predator in question today was this….it is either a Sharp Shin (11 inches) or a Coopers Hawk (16.5 inches)…I’m leaning to Coopers because of the size, it seemed larger than a Sharp Shin but really couldn’t get a good look and I’m no expert at identifying them.

Both types are smaller Hawks that feed on small birds and tend to hang out in areas where there are bird feeders.
