Activity at the log bay

The forecast for today had been for rain – and lot’s of it, which would actually be a good thing as it would bring up the water levels so we might actually get to see a Swan over here again – but instead it has just been gray…

Activity at the bay

all the activity today was over at the log bay…..approximately 30 Bald Eagles were in the immediate area…along with gulls and 30 or 40 Mallard

Eagles at the log bay

I didn’t want to disturb anybody so these photos (taken with my little camera) were max. zoom and then cropped…

Ducks and gulls

Both the gulls (Glaucous wing this time) and the Mallards were right along the shore eating the rotten Salmon – no one would ever eat a Mallard hunted here if they could see what they actually ate!

Jays in the bushes

Activity wasn’t limited to the bay itself…for some reason there were a lot of Steller’s Jay…3 in this bush when I took the picture although I can only spot 2 now.

Steller's Jay

There is one…sorry for the lousy picture….  Also saw Towhee, Song Sparrow and some Black Cap Chickadee in the vicinity.

Heron on left plus 3 Eagles

heading for home I noticed the bird on the left in the ‘eagle tree’ didn’t look quite right…

Heron in the tree

that is because it was a Great Blue Heron and not an eagle – we should be calling those trees ‘wildlife trees’ rather than ‘eagle trees’ as they are used by all kinds of birds, not just eagles.
